Saturday 4.5.2013: Starting the summer – almost week 2 (4. – 11.5.)

Saturday morning started quite well as Sefyr started its second trip to the light house with the new crew Päivi and Katja. Seals made their own welcome.

Johanna, Pasi and Pekka briefed us regarding the jobs for the coming week. Pasi will continue to stay at the light house also for the coming week.

Markus came also for a short visit to the light house to check the electricity status and make some small repairs.

Päivi and Pekka found from the shore a suprise – a bottle mail ”pulloposti” from Sweden. Isabella and Felicia 14 year old girls from Väddö had sented the letter in a bottle and it shored to Märket.

During the day we started spring cleaning from bedrooms and Pasi continued his jobs. We also saw the first two swallows so according to the finnish wording the summer is here just behind the corner.

After a memorable first day we send our Greetings from Märket as the wind is starting to blow a bit.

SUNDAY 5.5.2013: PLAYFUL WIND AND SUNNY SUNDAY PICNIC

Sunday morning started with bright morning sun and fresh wind. Morning view at 5.30 am.

Daily routins like setting the fire in the ovens, morning porridge and planning the day started this Sunday also – tearing and building.

Wind was very playful during the whole day and changed its direction 270 degrees making the kitchen towels to dance. Coming to the afternoon even the wind mill stopped due to the lack of wind.

Because of the super good weather we decided to have the afternoon coffee spiced with a small picnic.

Still wathers on the ponds made beautiful reflections of the light house.

6.5.2013 MONDAY: E-MAIL FROM GERMANY AND VIEWS FROM THE ROOMS

Today Märket light house got a mail from Manfred from Germany. Thank you Manfred for the mail and we all send Sunny Greeting to and your family also Wir wünschen Ihnen einen angenehmen Frühling.

TUESDAY 7.5.2013: GUEST – PASI, VESA AND PIKKU NESTORI

Today we had lot of guest. In the early morning hours a seal named by us ”Pikku Nestori” had arrived to our Island

During the morning Pasi and Vesa from Furuno arrived with the costguards boat to the Island to make some casework.

As a tradition we catered to our guest coffee.

Summer is on its way definitely also to Märket

Even we had guest daily works was made e.g. Päivi had her laudry day and Pasi helped Vesa and Pasi

The day was perfect, untill tomorrow

WEDNESDAY 8.5.2013: SMELL OF TAR, SMALL SEA TRIP AND DIVERS

Our morning clock and waker is the sun, also today. Beautiful way to start the day. Morning was a bit more windy as normal so we had also the possibility to admire the waves.

After morning porridge it was time to do some cleaning and washing. The gratings from the boat house came out and got their piece of the fresh sea water. Couple of the gratings would be painted with tar but first a small Sea trip.

Yesterday Pasi had built a tool to make it easier to lift up the boat from the Sea, so we needed to test it. Also to get a small Sea trip close to the light house, to see it from a different angle.

In the afternoon it was time to paint – with old style. The beautiful smell of tar gave the old times feeling and as enhancer the rugged Märket next to.

We have had quite a lot of ”traffic” near the Island this week and also today – divers.

In the afternoon Pasi and Vesa who came also today were picket up by coastguards boat.

Tomorrow is a new day – Märkets crew says good night and hear the waves :0)

THURSDAY 9.5.2013: BARBECUE PARTY, FOG AND NIGHT GUESTS

So far this week have been incredible. Sun every morning, also today.

Today we found old things like these magazines from Carlbergs cabin. Really intresting to read news that have happened over 60 year ago.

Pasi and Vesa arrived today also, but unlike other days this week they will stay on the Island over night. Still whole day of work.

In the afternoon after the work we decided to have a barbecue party. From the plate you can see that the menu was delicious. Pasi and Vesa served the desert.

FRIDAY 10.5.2013 MORNING MIST, NEW LIFE AND GOODBYE

Last night ended very foggy and it continued this morning by morning mist. The whole Island was swept in the fog – very light and fresh.

The mist stayed over the Island until midday.

Pasi builded a new bio recycle place ”komposti” next to the old one.

From the old komposti we even found new life, a very small seedling with 2 seed-leaf- Also the only tree on the Island the small willow starts soon to open its leaves soon.

The week has been memorable in many ways. We have had really good spring, almoust summer weather, made many different jobs and had fun. Also thank you to Pasi and Vesa for visiting the Island.

But most important of all the memories where made by us and the Light House together.

Feeling a bit sad but as it says ”You can not come back if you don´t first leave”.
