Sunday 24.6.2013
New team found each other already on the boat from Turku to Mariehamn. Six lighthouse veterans and one a superman naturally born.

In the evening we heated sauna and watched supermoon.

Sweet dreams, Märket falls silent.
Monday 24.6.2013
Monday has been full of work, and the story telling. We hoped that the number of words is correlated with the amount of work done.

“We are making floor on the roof.” Well its a long story to explain . . . But here are tools to do the job.

Tuesday 25.6.2013

Sauna floor work continues successfully.

Pasi hijacked our women to a seal safari. Kaija-Riitta and Elina were deligted by the seals who showed great interest on them.

Our guests of today started sailing from Uusikaupunki and visited us on the way to Sweden. Inkeri and Iris traweled with their parents and bunny with own life jackets.

We discovered once again The famous sun valve (”solventil”, “solar valve”, ”aurinkoventtiili”) is a form of flow control valve, notable because it earned its inventor Gustaf Dalén the Nobel prize in physics. The valve formed part of theDalén light which was used in lighthouses from the 1900s through to the 1960s by which time electric lighting came to dominate.

Sunset was discovered with powerlifting company Bonn & Mess which is the oldest company still active in the floating sheerleg sector in Rotterdam. Could they find some interesting marketing material in our diary?

Wednesday 26.6.2013
Wednesday morning opened cloudy and windy but in the afternoon we were expecting and we got some sun and heat. Also some great waves were observed.

We were forced to order some special help to put up construction scaffolding. Luckily the manager of firm called Märketin Teline Taiturit (MTT) was nearby and attached to the contract immediately

MTT employed right away some questionable labour force from South Ostrobothnia to do some ”kökkä”. In other words in English something like ”voluntary work”.

Mats brought 6 guests and we picked them up with rubberboat. In the same time we discovered something interesting on the rock. Can you see it in the picture?

The Black Guillemot or Tystie is a medium-sized alcid. Adult birds have black bodies with a white wing patch, a thin dark bill, and red legs and feet. They show white wing linings in flight. In winter, the upperparts are pale grey and the underparts are white. The wings remain black with the large white patch on the inner wing.
Their breeding habitat is rocky shores, cliffs and islands. They usually lay their eggs in rocky sites near water. Hopefully there is chance to have a happy family event.
Thursday 27.6.2013

Tired dragonfly sat on the middle of the construction site. The area had to be isolated immediately by flag line. Reportedly dragonfly’s flight continued safely. Flock of butterflies were also flying around the Market despite of dangers of the sea.

As to food supplies all has been fine. Executive Chef Elina with assistant Kaija-Riitta have made many kind of goodies in front of us. Today we had some pancakes.

Friday 28.6.2013
Our Black Guillemot couple have their place near the eggs discovered. Hopefully there is peace enough for them to continue their breeding.

Terns are birds of open habitats that typically breed in noisy colonies and lay their eggs on bare ground with little or no nest material. Terns have been quite aggressive because of then nests, eggs and chicks already hatched.

There is always some cutting and welding to do. And The Man to do The Job. In this case reinforcing steel to sauna floor.

There has been guite an invasion of companies and firms on the island. These companys do not need any state support. Operation of the firms is home and dry. It was needed to call firm HHH Hammarlandin Hormi Huolto to do some water pot chimney sweeping.

Elina felt like she was not alone in The Lilla Mäket while washing up. She found the Little Prince…or is it a frog who has not been kissed? You never know where this story leads…

Our time in Märket is coming to end. Manager Pasi stays for another week but rest of us will leave taking with us a bunch of stories heard and good menories worth remembering, having left our own trace in Märket.

Greetings from
Pasi, Arto, Elina, Matti, Ari, Kaija-Riitta and Vesa
