Sunday 1.7.2007 – Radio amateurs and a hint of rhum

Wheather: Fog during the last night, cloudy and windy morning, a wonderful sunny evening, sky with thousands of stars.
Yesterday we had a crew change and also few guests. The 23rd Märket world explorer arrived to a new country (see www.mosttraveledpeople.com). We were happy to have her here like all the guests and as a greeting a bottle of rhum!

Today we saw about 60 seals having morning swim. Two of them even crowled to land. At noon three brave men arrived; we were expecting more visitors, but the weather was too demanding. 2200 radiocontacts (by the radio amateurs) from all over the world has been reached by radioamateurs during the first 22 hours.

Tasks: Inventory in the shop. Making a kitchen shelfunity. Cleaning up inside and outside.

We finish with the report as we are now start to eat Poor Knites (a Finnish “poor man´s desert) with a touch of carribbean rhum. Not so bad.

Monday 2.7.2007 – Märket the human, delicious grill
Weather
A sensational day: clear sky, almost no wind, like in the Mediterranian Sea. Incredible. We have just gone around the island thinking: are we really in the North. A morning-swim, talking with the seals and addind suncream. Hot. Hot.
Events
Exciting! At 10 o’clock two seal recearchers from Sweden: coloured by the wind and sun, inspiring discussions.

At 4 o’clock a nice family with their brand new Ancona 400 sailingboat. They are the bravest onces so far – when they approached Märket was it us who lost the nerves first. viveka and sanna threw the rowingboat to the water and hurried towards them screaming stop, be aware for the stones! It appeared that the father of the family was a true captain after all.

These two visits were the only onces, but we felt that we communicated also with the seals during the whole day. The report is not yet over, but already now will we say: COME HERE ALL OF YOU WHO LONGE FOR THE BEAUTY, THE UNIQUE, THE INSPIRATION.
Senses
Besides the overwhelming sensations, caused by the weather have we (sonja) but special effort for the taste buttons. We have eated outside in the worlds most beautifull site: all we see is the blue horizon and flat stones. We haven’t had so deep filosophical discussions, every one of us is just continuosly repeating: this is so incredible!
We have still a long summer ahead of us – Märket is open!
Tuesday 3.7.2007 – Porridge and submarines
Weather
Another amazing sunny day, mild wind from south-east, veily clouds and extreamly hot cliff.
Events
9 o’clock 10 liters of brilliant porridge is ready and the first breakfast guests arrives. Among them yet another load of great Worldexplorers and a greeting bottle of rom. Thank you!

With the breakfast group also Sanna and two radioamateurs with their generator have left the building. We hear the sounds of the nature again. Ups, someone has left a backpack here. (if you miss it text us).
Lunch guest arrived with a sailing boat. A nice family and hopefully future members of the Lighthouse Society.

We were proud to welcome relatives of the past lighthouse keepers, as the afternoon coffee guests arrives. We are still wating for dining guests. Bread dough is raising. Ps. The sound of waves is wonderfull.
News
Swedish divers found long searched Russian submarine, about 20 nm south-west from Märket. It’s so close that you can see the site through the binochulars from the top of the lighthouse. We have not tryed this yet.
Märket the gourmet wonder of the world. Remaining crew Auvo, Sonja and Viveka.
Wednesday 4.7.2007 – Porridge and helicopters
Weather
In the morning trong wind, rain, rather high waves. During the day variable weather: rain, sun and mild wind. Evening: rain in the continent, clouds and sun in Märket.
Events
In the mornig we cleared up couple of rooms to give space for swedish radioamateurs who will probable arrive tomorrow. We rescued the most valuable treasures of lighthouse masterbedroom: a bible and a pile of pornmagazines.
At noon we hear completly strange unexpected noise in the pleasent silence. They are the rescue team! Boarderpatrol arrived with a helicopter.

We have noticed that the camera which is placed on the roof, has been acting strangely. They repaired the camera and had a cup of coffee with us. In the middle of the coffee they rushed away beacuse someone needed an urgent rescue.
To be able to rescue the lighthouse, one of the tasks is to count and measure the windows. Which we started today. Remaining seven liter of porridge has partly been rescued due to opening of the Märket bakery.

News
The seal safary seems to be temporarely closed due to seals climbing problem. For some reasons today seals are unable to climbe to the rocks. If they can not solve their promblem before midnight, we have to go and rescue them. The seals sleeps on a dry land.
Even though the evening is cloudy, the moment is rescued by wine, candles and soft jazz (Nina Simone)

Thursday 5.7.2007 – Hard working dinghy
Weather
Demanding waves for our litlle red dinghy. Blue sky, strong wind and sun.

Despite the wind, if you find a sheltered spot, it is quite warm.
At noon dinghy attacts waves. Target to pick up people from two motorboats. Two children had a plan to conquer Märket. They realized when sitting in dinghy that there was a flag on land already, and whispered that they didin’t actually have a flag to mark the land. Dinghy got all the family members safely to land.

After a two hour tour on the reef, dinghy returns to the open sea.
Again our lunch was interupted by new gests and dinghy is back in business. Two more guest were safely brought to Märket. Still another trip to open sea and dinghys’ day job was done.
Events

Shop has moved to the first floor from the second and is open normally.
Five radioamateurs arrived.
Märket, dinghy, Auvo, Sonja and Viveka.
Friday 6.7.2007 – Route du Rhum
Wheather

Thick cloud blanket, like the persian flying carpet. Humid, but no rain. Heavy wind and therefore very strong waves.
Events
Radioamateurs have build and set up their antennas around the finish side of Märket. Seems like they are trying to contact the moon. One of the five old diesel generator is runnig and sounds like an old wooden fishermans boat. We were told a story that when all the five generators and the fog horne was running it was 200 dbl noise that turned your internal organs inside out.
