Week 25, 15. – 22.06. : Pera, Pete and Päve
Sunday 15.06.2014
After leaving Marienhamn harbour we drived towards Eckerö. When arriving to Hugo’s shop which is located about halfway to Eckerö, we saw two white-tailed eagles flying over the shop. Then we got our foodsupplies and continued driving.
In Käringsund harbour started material loading in the Sefyr. Pera’s car was full of materials which were going to the Märket lighthouse.
Weather was grate in the sunday afternoon. The sea was calm and the sun was shining. Time for change the shifts was best possible one because wind was 10 m/s from north at saturday and forecast for monday was also 10 m/s from north. A really good windcap for us in sunday.
Unloding the boat went fast and after it loading was done rapidly also. Lot of bricks, concrete and tools were on the deck.
Lots of swallows were flying round the lighthouse trying cathc the flies and other insects in the air. When the sun was setting seals came on the nearby rocks to sleep and so are we going too.
16.6. Monday
As it was forecasted yesterday wind rose again in the night. It would have been impossible to land today, north harbour was boiling.
Päve started to work with repainting the light house windows.
Tea time in the sunshine
Going on with the sauna door.
So the day was done. Happy and tired we sat on supper. Still Pete wanted to have a little walk around the islet and shoot some photos.
Tuesday 17.6.
Today wind was still hard, even harder than yesterday but we had some sunshine too. So we could continue working on with the sauna and light house windows.
In the afternoon we got guests. The Finnish Border Guard leaders wanted to see Märket islet and the light house and where interested in what The Light House Society is doing here. Besides border men enjoy themselves on the edges, like they said.
Thank you for your visit and interest!
Back to business. Pera’s AutoCAD drawing sauna stairs. Well planned is half done.
Wednesday 18.6.
Partly sunny, partly cloudy, wind calming down towards the evening. The whole day, in fact, already since yesterday evening, seals where lying like logs on nearby islet looking to enjoy life.
We instead continued working with sauna and lighthouse windows. Also enjoying life.
Everyday routines where done of course today but here you see washing dishes 100 years ago.
Arctic Tern was also doing everyday routines, fishing on it’s favorite place in south harbour.
Today was again as colourfull as the scenery in Märket.
Thursday 19.6.
Raining but warm and calm. Weather like soft felt covering the islet.
Lighthouse window painting went on inside. In the afternoon sky was bright again and Pera and Pete went to work with sauna. They worked like animals to get ready with it.
Märket’s marvellous dish washing conditions: mobil sink table can easily be moved to a sunny place.
The evening was so delightful that we worked outside without noticing it was already very late.
In the lighthouse kitchen sunset beutifully coloured walls.
Midsummer Eve 20.6.
Opening the Märket sauna officially was a great moment for all of us and to all those who have worked for it. Great thanks to everybody. Now it is ready for use. Those who can come here and have a sauna – enjoy it because it is magnicifent!
In the morning weather was cloudy and wind was 14 m/s from north. It means that waves were too big for visitors today.
The sauna was made on the same place where ”Carlberg’s cabin” was situated. From outside the new sauna looks almost similar to the old cabin.
The sauna got yesterday some coverpanels to windows and door. Drop mouldings were assembled into the steaming room. Ventilation holes got new slideshutters.
We prepared carefully for the first sauna session, cleaned places, pumped water and at last – a fire into the sauna stowe.
Opening beers were sponsored by Hugo’s shop.
And finally an impressive sunset from the top of the lighthouse
Midsummer day 21.6.
The day of a great relaxation. No work today, told Pera. Windy and sunny, just perfect day to stay outside observing birds and seals.
Naturally we ended the day bathing in the brand new Märket sauna.
