290809 Windy Chenge Day

The great adventure off Rina and Kati has begun. After six months waiting we are finally here! The island is actually bigger than we thought and the lighthouse is as beautiful as we knew it would be.

Our first day has gone quickly wandering around and checking out places. Because the way here was very long we are planning to have “an early night” and won`t probably hear any seals singing this evening. But luckyly we managed to see lots of them on our way from Eckerö to Märket today.

Hugs and kisses, Kati & Rina, the lighthouse watchers.

300809 Day Two

Sunday morning was a bit windy like yesterday (8-12 m/s). But sunshine woke us up after good nigt sleep in garret bedroom. Because we dont have any tasklist, we decided to clean up places in the lighthouse. Daily jobs take quite a lot of time.

After lunch Rina took her daily “meditation moment” on the north part of reef and there it was – our first own seal! Since we didnt have any guests today (we are still waiting for swedish royal couple), decided we to close the shop at five o´olock and have the rest of evening free.

Enjoying the feeling! Kati & Rina.

310809 Monday, Monday

Pay-day, but here in Märket you dont need your money, because bathing in sea and sun is free.

Waves in west coast

Weather today is same as yesterday, wind is little bit harder (10-12 m/s) but the sun is warming us, a perfect day for bath.

Sunbath after seabath

Daily tasks and writeing a diary fill our day. No visitors today eather.

And when the evening get darker we will continue our “uno-marathon” (game) the loser is going to clean a biotoilet at the end of the week.

Uno marathon.

GOODNIGHT! Kati & Rina.

010909 Guided Tour At Last

Request of audience we try to get a little bit longer story for today. Yesterday evening during our “uno-marathon” come rain which lasted over night. In our garret bedroom we could hear raindrops singing, and get good sleep.

Luckily we were clever enough to turn the rowingboat upside down, in the evening, so we didnt have to empty it today. The morning was grey, but no rain. Wind only 6-8 m/s SW, same direction as last three days.

After breakfast and three mugs coffee and tea we were ready to start our daily work.

We have to face the fact it is autumn, eventhough days are still warm and beautiful, winter is coming and all articles must be placed inside. Hopefully other lighthouse keepers will find everything they need next spring.

Notice!

Before lunch we had our moment with radio. Seaforecast is the best friend here and help us making tomorrows plan. Tomorrow it might be very windy day so we propably have to take plan B.

Radio

After delicious lunch and little “freetime” we practiced and amuse our selves with guided tour here in Märket. Rina was a visitor and Kati guided (still no outsiders). It was very fun! Afterwards we had to do some shopping…

020909 Finally A Rainy Day!

Since our friend (=seaforecast) promised rainy and windy wednesday, we decided to enjoy yesterdays beautiful sunny evening doing some outside jobs.

We carried old glassbricks in to shelter, cleaned up the frontyard of the lighthouse. We even tryed to saw old rotten woodplats but to be honest to do some sawing one needs proper implements and the one we found was a museo item. Men would probably use motorsaw…

It was lovely to fell in sleep with wind roaring and moaning in the tower. As we knew and were hoping, this morning was raining. Therefore we had no hurry to wake up instead of it we spend a nice morningmoment staying in our sleepingbags and making a better world, as we women usually do by talking.

After a long breakfast we started our inside job. We made an inventory, that Pekka asked, for all food items. After that we organized mugs, cups etc. as all the other women before us.

After work was time for something new, we made fire to our garretroom fireplace. Because that was our first “inside fire”, it was a bit exiting. But everything went brilliant, no-one had to come after smokesigns. For a little while we enjoyed the warm and beauty of fire.

In the afternoon came sun and we had our afternoon coffee up on the lighthousetower.

During the day we had talked a lot about marvellous renovation what all members of lighthousesociety have done here in Märket. The lighthouse is incredible beautiful both in and outside.

Beauty it self

Soon we will continue our “uno-marathon” … Now it seems that Rina has some work to do in friday.

Thinking of you! Kati and Rina.

080909 Visitors!

Thursday morning was sunny, wind has calmed down it was only 5 m/s E. Few little jobs to do and then because tomorrow is probably going to be our last day here in lighthouse, we decided to enjoy the day and not to do so much.

Kati emptying little boat

We took our sittingbaces to the “southbeach” and laid down between the rocks. As we were enjoying the sun and beauty of the sea, writeing e-mail to Pekka for yesterdays inventorylist, we suddenly thought that we heard some boat coming…

Quick check by binoculars confirmed this. A boat near sealreef was really approaching Märket – we were getting visitors! It took us about 10 seconds to organize ourselves and the lighthouse ready for the visitors. It wasn´t the Royal couple but still notables people from parliament both Helsinki and Åland, for example Jyrki Katainen and Mats Perämaa. Charming gentleman Bengt Granberg brought the guests here by his boat Felicia.

Kati was happy that she had practised the guiding the tour earlier this week. So she had absolutely no problems to keep presentation of the lighthouse and tell them the history of it. We didn`t have to worry about coffee and other catering because they had their own “picnicfood” with them. We just helped to serve it and afterwards had some nice little smalltalk.

Guests having lunch

Since the guests had off course a tight schedule they had ton leave us after lunch. Hopefully they can come back someday and have more time to enjoy the beautiness of the lighthouse and the reef of Märket. After goodbyes we stayed waveing until the boat disappeared to the horisont. WOW, WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!

Felicia leaving Märket

Then it was time for our gourmet lunch – delicious leftovers from our guests picnic… Day was quite exiting, so we took the rest of the evening just for ourselves.

Footbath

Visitors are wellcome! See you soon! Rina & Kati

Ps. Tomorrow you will know which one of us is the lucky “uno-winner”.

040909 Last Day?

As the “friend” had promised, wind blew all sleepsand out of our eyes, – 15-18 m/s S. Last day jobs, taking care of biotoilet, compostor, woods, water etc. Uno-marathon is over and we have the looser…

Uno looser going to empty the biotoilet
Kati doing the last outside jobs

Sending a shoppinglist and cleaning up places for the next lighthouse watches. Who hopefully can change places with us tomorrow, if the wind calms down…

In the afternoon we loaded our own batterys by having some “tyrskyterapia”. Now mothers are ready to go home.

Majakkavahti and fyrvakten ready to go home

We end our diary here from Märket with words from the book Muumipappa ja meri by Tove Jansson: “Te ymmärrätte… meri on suuri olento, joka on toisinaan hyvällä päällä ja toisinaan huonolla. Ja on aivan mahdotonta tietää miksi. Siitä näkee vain pinnan. Mutta jos pitää merestä, niin se ei haittaa mitään. Silloin sietää huonot tuulet samoin kuin hyvätkin… Minä olen aina pitänyt merestä, me kaikki pidämme merestä, siksihän me juuri tulimme tänne, eikö niin?”

Allways in our hearts, Märket

Ett underbar upplevelse – an adventure which allways will have a place in our hearts!

Over and out, Kati ja Rina.

050909 Waiting!

Early in the morning wind blows 12 m/s and wawes are quite big, our boatdriver inform us that we cant get out of Märket in morning. So today we have wait and wait… Wind is now calming down and we might have a change… but we`ll see. At the mean while we take some fotos up on the lighthouse tower.

Hopeing to get hometrip today, as much as we love being here.
