Saturday, June 16, 2018 LAUANTAI 16.6.2018
First guests, from Sweden, came right after the change of guards, and got a quick tour before contnuing paddling towards Eckerö.
A warm morning turned cooler and windier. Timo had been at Märket once before, but for me, Marjaana, this is the first time as a volunteer lighthouse keeper. Fortunately Timo is a great guide and precise with safety issues. We also found the Market gardens!
Keli oli aamulla lämmin, miltei 18, iltapäivällä lämpötila laski 14 asteeseen ja tuuli nousi 8 m/s. Ilmeisen pientä täällä.
Paikat on katsottu, turvallisuuskierros tehty, grilli testattu Maarianhaminasta hankitulla tuoreella lohella.
SUNNUNTAI 17.6. valkeni sumuun
Sunday morning mist.
The night before was clearer.
Mutta lauantai-ilta oli selkeä ja näkyvyys riittävä.
The whole idea of the Finnish Lighthouse Society is to maintain the lighthouses, but by this time of year the to-do list is already remarkably short. Below the few things Tommi and his father were able to fix.
Työlista on harmittavan lyhyt, mutta Timo ja Tommi pääsivät jo tulopäivän iltana valmistelemaan tulevaa.
The pipe up there needs painting, but not with these ladders!
By early evening the landscape came back.
This view needs no fixing, it is complete as it is.
MAANANTAI 18.6.
MONDAY June 18.
We were expecting a group of visitors on Wednesday, but they turned up today! Fortunately we had begun the day with tidying the whole house (still no images of the cook – diary keeper – dishwasher) so we were as ready as ever when the Society of the Three Blacksmiths arrived.
Men det gicḱ nog, förhoppningsvis
The society is the biggest owner of Aktia Bank in Finland, and ǵrants millions of euros yearly in support of arts, education and sports.
Kolmen sepän säätiö tukee varsinkin helsinkiläistä (ruotsinkielistä) kulttuuria, urheilua ja koulutusta, yhdistysten ja yhteisöjen/työryhmien hakemuksista. Hyviä hakemuksia kannattaa jättää, vakuuttaa hallitus.
The group got a thorough tour of Märket, all the way up to the light itself.
‘
But that was not it –
Lisää melojia lähestyi pohjoisesta –
Four paddlers from Lübeck – or from Grissleholm, to be precise, boarded Märket
Fred, Anke, Thomas ja Marina perustivat pienen telttakylän eteläkalliolle, tuulten armoille.
It had taken this group of experienced athletes 8,5 hours to paddle from the Swedish town of Grissleholm to this rocky island. High time to get some rest.
TIISTAI 19.6.
Tuesday, June 19.
Wind SW 13 m/s. More rest, no business out there today.
Vieraamme jäivät vielä toiseksikin päiväksi.
A nice place to read Märket diaries together from a phone.
Tuulta pidellessä on hyvä lukea Märketin talkoopäiväkirjoja kännykällä.
Meanwhile. Tommi an Timo have another task to finish.
Just like I do. The dishes seem to breed.
Ei vieläkään kuvia tiskaajasta. Mutta tiskeistä sentään.
Our guests from Germany thought we had such a cute TV to watch. I had to break the illusion.
But sauna and the view from it are the same from one century to another.
Barbecue Finnish style: sausage and toast. You should taste it.
KESKIVIIKKO 20.6.
Wednesday, June 20
After two night at Market, it’s time to go!
Vihdoinkin vesille!
But it took barely an hour for the next guests to enter Market
Bengt Granberg toi joukkueen viettämään firman virkistyspäivää aitoon ympäristöön.
This Alandia real estate group contemplated on buying the lighthouse. Doubtful. They might take good care of it, though.
Mutta niin pitää talkoolaisetkin, hyvää huolta majakasta.
Safety first!
Putken on oltavat punainen.
TORSTAI 21.6.2018
Thursday, June 21.
22 guests this week, so far. Today only this one.
No demands. Except: please leave me alone!
Kuutti tuli käymään, ja olisi mieluiten uinut ihan yksin laguunissa. Emme siis jääneet katsomaan mitä kautta se lähti kotiinsa.
Huomiseksi juhannusaatoksi luvattu pohjoistuulta 19 m/s. Jännittävää.
After todays rain waiting for tomorrows storm with a picture of yesterdays sunset.
PERJANTAI 22.6. Juhannusaatto
Friday, June 22. Midsummer eve
Tänään vain yksi tarina –
Featuring: The perfect storm:
Wind 21,5 m/s North – North-West, occasionally 29 m/s. The real thing.
Aika lujasti piti pitää kamerasta kiinni. Erilainen juhannus.
LAUANTAI 23.6.
Saturday, June 23.
Lots of time to think at the lighthouse. Things like why are nine out of ten ships Northbound? When are they coming back?
Suuret laivat menevät pohjoiseen, mutta pienet etelään, poijulle.
The boat had to be tested, in case the only tiny harbor would be subject to high waves Sunday morning, when the new lighthouse guardians would take over, and we would go back to mainland.
Sillä aikaa kun Timo testasi kumivenettä, joku tiskasi.
The amount of dishes three people are able to produce in a day takes one person surprisingly long to wash.
Timo tiesi kertoa, että laivat menevät viikonvaihteessa pohjoisen satamiin ollakseen valmiina maanantain purkuun. Tämä oli tosin jo menossa etelää kohti. Ehkä kotiin?
This is the Southbound ship coming back.
And I am homebound, this is the final posting of week 25.
Such a great week! Thank you Timo, Tommi and Märket!
Kiitos Majakkaseura!
