Lauantai 14.7. – Saturday 14th of July

Aamu valkeni Ahvenanmaalla aurinkoisena ja vuoronvaihto suoritettiin tyynessä säässä. Aamutuimaan Veera, Jake ja ensikertalaiset Mikko ja Mirva saapuivat Käringsundiin ajoissa. Jake ja Veera lähtivät hakemaan viikon ruokatilausta Hugolta ja kauppias tarjosi heille jäätelöt. —- Morning started with a very sunny and bright weather. The crew could change the shift in windless conditions. Veera, Jake and the first timers Mikko and Mirva arrived to Käringsund in time. Jake and Veera went to get the groceries from Hugo’s and the sore owner gave them ice cream.

Aurinkoinen sää houkutteli Matsin veneeseen muutaman vierailijan ja merelle hylkeitä. Auringossa oli mukava istua keulassa, vaikka housut kastuu vastatäytettyjen vesikanistereiden päällä. Saavuttaessa ihanalle Märketille oli edellinen viikko meitä vastassa ja Tiina, joka jatkoi viikolle 29 majakkaelämää kanssamme.—- The sunny weather lured some visitors with Mats and some seals to pop-up from the sea. It was so warm and nice to take in the sea air in the front of the boat eventhough the trousers might get wet while sat on the newly filled water cans. When the crew arrived to lovely Märket, was the week 28 crew waiting for us and Tiina who continued her lighthouse life with us.

Vuoronvaihdon jälkeen ensikertalaiset Mikko ja Mirva saivat tutustumiskierroksen majakkaan. Päivän työlistalla oli tiskipadan pesua sekä terassilla olevan sammutusvesitynnyrin kannen tekeminen. —- When the week 28 left, the first timers Mikko and Mirva got a tour around the lighthouse. On the work list there was the dish water boiler cleaning and making the fire emergency water barrel’s lid.

Myös lisää vierailijoita saapui ihastelemaan Märketiä. Honeymoonilaiset jättivät tervehdyksen vieraskirjaamme.—Also more visitors came to see Märket. The honeymooners left greetings to our guestbook.

Vierailun jälkeen oli aika uida karannut autonrengas pohjoissatamasta. Mirva lupautui toimimaan renkaanmetsästäjänä.—- After the visitors it was time to swim the escaped car tire back to its place at the northern harbor. Mirva volunteered for the job.

Päivän askarien jälkeen oli aika lämmittää sauna ja syödä illallista. Sää jatkui lämpimänä, aurinkoisena ja tuulettomana.—- When the daily tasks were done it was time to heat the sauna and eat some supper. The weather continued to be warm, sunny and windless.

Sunnuntai 15.7. – Sunday the 15th of July

Yön aikana makasiiniin oli ilmestynyt sammakkoystävä, joka pääsi nauttimaan paparazzien kuvaamisesta ja sitä kautta jukisuudesta. — During the night a frog decided to visit us at the storage house. He got his 15 minutes of fame while we took some pictures of him.

Aamu valkeni aurinkoisena ja aamupalan jälkeen oli aika korkata Märketin viikon 29 turistikausi. Ensin pohjois ja lounais- satamiin saapui kolme venettä Ruotsista sekä kaksi melojaa matkalla Ahvenanmaan kautta Suomeen. Mirva hoiti kahvitarjoilua ja lounasta, kun ruotsalaisia opastettiin ihanan majakkamme historiaan.. – The morning was sunny and after the breakfast it was time to start the Märket tourist season for week 29. At first there was a three boats from Sweden and two paddlers on their way to Eckerö and onwards to Finland. Mirva took care of the coffee service and our lunch while the Sweds were guided through the history and life of our lovely Märket.

Lounaalla saimme lisää vieraita, tällä kertaa kolme perhettä Suomesta. Mikko toimi moottorivenekuskina poijulle, Tiina kertoi heille majakkaelämästä ja Jake Majakkaseuran alkuajoista Märketillä. — At the lunch time there was more visitors coming to buoy. This time three families from Finland. Mikko picked them to the islans and Tiina guided them while Jake told them about the early years of Finnish Lighthouse Society’s work at Märket.

Kun Jake ja Veera olivat menossa viemään itäsatamaan renkaita he havaitsivat hylkeen köllöttelemässä sataman kivillä. Äkkiä kyykkyyn pois näkyvistä ja tuulen alapuolelle. Veera jäi vahtimaan ettei hylje karkaa samalla kun Jake kipaisi hakemaan Tiinan kunnon kameran kera kuvaamaan karvaista vierastamme. Alkuillasta myös pariskunta Suomesta saapui pohjoissatamaan ja he saivat kierroksen majakassa. He päättivät yöpyä saarellamme matkalla eteenpäin. — While Jake and Veera were about to take some tires to the Eastern harbor they spotted a seal sunbathing on the rocks. They dove down so that the seal wouldn’t smell or see them. Veera sat in guard while Jake went to pick Tiina with her professional camera. She got cute pictures of our furry friend. There was also a couple from Finland visiting Märket during the evening and they decided to overnight at the Northern harbor.

Illallista pääsimme syömään terassilla grillaten ja auringonlaskua ihmetellen. Sauna lämpesi illallisen aikana ja saunasta piti tietenkin käydä kylpyankkojen kansa uimassa. Päivän turistisaldo oli yhteesä 26 vierasta. Tietokone päätti menettää nettiyhteyden, joten olimme nettipimennossa puhelimien yhteyden heitellessä huonosta hitaaseen. — Dinner was served while the sun was going down. A nice view for some barbecue. During the dinner the sauna was ready and of course girls took some time to dip into one of the lagoons with the rubber ducks. Totally there were 26 visitors during the day. The computer decided to lose the internet connection and the crew wasn’t able to connect the outer world. Phone connections altered from poor to none existence.

Maanantai 16.7. – Monday the 16th of July

Aamulla kosteus nousi yli 90 prosenttiin ja sulkasääsket päättivät asuttaa konehuoneen seinää ja terassia. Seurasimme pääskyspesueen lentoharjoituksia päiväaskareiden lomassa ja ihmettelimme miksi venevajan pääskyt eivät pitäneet Jakesta. — In the morning the humidy rose to over 90 percent and the phantom midges decided to inhabit the engine room’s wall and the terrace. Of course the baby swallows were having some flying practise and we got a nice little show of that during the morning tasks. The swallows living at the boat house didn’t like Jake and we wondered why was that?

Mikko ja Jake rälläköivät uusia renkaita satamia varten samalla kun Mirva ja Veera valmistelivat lounasta. Voimakas kumin katku täytti etupihamme hetkeksi. — Mikko and Jake prepared tires or the harbors and the smell and smoke from the rubber was very strong at te front yard. Mirva and Veera prepared the lunch while boys were working.

Horisontissa näkyi veneitä, jotka kuitenkin kurvasivat ympäri saartamme ottaen kuvia majakasta. Purjevene eksyi kuitenkin poijulle ja Mikko kurvasi hakemaan heidät saareen. He olivat perhe Ruotsista ja kiinnostuneita elämästä majakalla ja meidän talkootyöstämme. Tiina otti heidät vastaan. — During the lunch there was a sailboat coming from Sweden and Mikko went to pick them up from the buoy. Tiina took the family of four around the Lighthouse.

Myöhemmin uintihetken keskeyttivät ruotsalaisvene ja suomalainen perhe 6 kk vanhan Ekku-westiensä kanssa. Kumpikaan seurueista eivät olleet kuulleetkaan Majakkaseuran toiminnasta saaressa ja he tulivat kiinnostuneina tutustumaan. Tornista näkymää ei kuitenkaan voinut ihailla kauaa, sillä sulkasääsket tunkeutuivat silmiin, nenään, suuhun ja korviin. Vieraiden lähdettyä päivällinen katettiin majakanpuoleiselle pöydälle, jossa ruokailu voitiin suorittaa ilman sulkasääskiä. — Later the bathing session was disturbed by the tourists: one boat from Sweden and other from Finland with little 6 months old Ekku the Westie. The guiding tour at the tower was challenging due to phantom midges intruding into ears, nose and eyes. Neither of them have heard of our work on the island and happily they listen the guiding. After the visitors left the dinner was served on the terrace to the lighthouse side table which was safe from phantom midges.

Lämpöaallon helliessä ihoa punaiseksi päätimme siirtyä hetkeksi sisätiloihin. Ilta jatkui aurinkoisena leppoisissa tunnelmissa. Nettiyhteys oli edelleen alhaalla. — While the sun kept shining the crew decided to spent some time inside to cool down. The evening continued to be very sunny but also relaxing. Still no internet.

Kellon käydessä kymmentä havaitsimme makasiinin eteläovista veneen poijulla. Kuka ihme saapuisi siihen aikaan? Kiiruhdimme sisälle majakkaan hakemaan kiikarit. Veneeltä irtosi pieni kumivene ja kaksi Ruotsin majakkaseuralaista saapui saareen. He olivat tulossa kuvaamaan Märketiä. Otimme heidät vastaan ja pääsimme näkemään ammattimaista kuvausta ja kuulemaan naapurimme seuran toiminnasta. Oli hauska tavata Magnus! — It was ten o’ clock in the evening when we spotted a boat at the buoy. Who would come at this hour to our ligthhouse? A small rubber motorboat came to the shore and two Swedish Lighthouse Society members came to photoshoot our lighthouse. We took them in and got a nice introduction to professional photographing and of course our neigbour’s society work. It was really nice to meet you Magnus!

Tiistai 17 .7. – Tuesday the 17th July

Aamu alkoi generaattorin jylinällä ja erittäin kostealla ilmalla. Sisällä kosteusmittari näytti 98 % . Sen kyllä tunsi. Aamu-uinnilla Tiina teki tuttavuutta hylkeen kanssa, joka lekotteli laguunimme viereisillä kivillä. —Morning started with a generator sound and very humid air. The humidity meter showed 98 % and you could really feel it. During the morning swim Tiina made friends with a seal lying on the nearby rocks.

Uinti virkisti hetkeksi ja olimme valmiita vastaanottamaan kolme horisontissa näkyvää venettä. Veljekset perheineen Ruotsista purjeveneillään mukanaan Gustav, ihana merikarhu sekä suomalainen moottorivene Uusikaupungista. — After the refreshing swim the crew was ready to take care of the visitors: brothers on their sailboats with their families from Sweden. They have also a cute furry sea captain with them called Gustav. The third boat was a motorboat from Uusikaupunki, Finland.

Lounaan jälkeen myöhemmin Jake ja Mirva menivät pesemään vaatteita sillä aikaa kun Mikko haki vierailijaryhmän Ruotsista poijulta. Tiina perehdytti heidät majakkaelämäämme ja Veera toimi valokuvaajana sekä puotipuksuna. — Later on Jake and Mirva went to wash clothes while Mikko drove to buoy to pick up some visitors from Sweden. Tiina took them around and Veera was taking pictures and taking care of the shop.

Päivä jatkui päivittäisten askarten parissa ja illallista syötiin etupihalla turvassa sulkasääskiltä. Tuuli yltyi pohjois-koillispuoleiseksi ja saaren pohjoispuolella näkyi jopa vaahtopäitäkin. Vihdoinkin saimme myös interetin toimimaan. Ilta jatkui iloisissa merkeissä ja iltauinnilla joka venähti 1,5 tuntiseksi. — The day continued with the daily routine tasks and the dinner was eaten at the front yard; no midges there. The wind was blowing from north and northeast. The waves had some foam crowns as well at that point. The evening swim in the warm lagoon took then 1,5 hours.

Keskiviiko 18.7. – Wednesday the 18th of July

Aamu alkoi valmistautumalla Matsin mukana tuleviin lintubongareihin. Kosteus oli laskenut, mutta lämpötila nousi +25 asteeseen. Ihmettelimme kukkakärpästen in vaasiota, jonka eräs lintubongari sanoi johtuvan siitä, että ne munivat samaan aikaan jossakin lähisaaressa ja jotenkin ne kaikki löysivät tiensä saarellemme. — The morning started by preparing ourselves for Mats and some bird watchers. The humidity was reduced but the temperature rose to +25 degrees. There was an invasion of flower flies. One of the bird watchers told us that they hatch on some island nearby and somehow they all end up here.

Lounasaikaan pojulle ilmestyi vene Suomesta; pariskunta Mary-nimisen kultaisen noutajan kanssa. Mary tietenkin halusi vilvoitella yhdessä laguuneistamme kun Tiina kertoili majakan historiasta hänen omistajilleen.— On lunch time there was a boat at the buoy. A couple from finland with Mary the golden retriever. Mary of course wanted to cool down in one of our lagoons while Tiina took her owners around the lighthouse.
Päivä jatkui aurinkoisissa merkeissä ja kaksi etukäteen ilmottautunutta vierailijaa peruivat vierailunsa. Seurasimme siis vain sukeltajien Orbit-laivan tapahtumia lähiluodolla. Jake ja Veera muistelivat laivan olevan sama, joka pari kesää sitten jumittui karille. — The day continued sunny while two before hand announced visitors cancelled their visits. We took a time to follow the divers with their boat called Orbit. Jake and Veera rememred the similar boat from two summers back. The boat got then stuck into the rocks.
Jake keksi käydä kumiveneellä hylkeitä katsomassa lähiluodolla. Tiina ja Veera lähtivät mukaan veneretkelle. Moottori sammui matkalla kolmisen kertaa, mutta se ei menoa haitannut. Lähiluoto oli kuitenkin tyhjä hylkeistä joten seurue suuntasi edemmäs, jossa heidän saapumisensa sai aikaan joukkopaon kiviltä. Tiina harjoitteli veneen ohjaamista paluumatkalla ja herkullisen päivällisen jälkeen myös Mikko ja Mirva suuntasivat katsomaan suloisia karvaystäviämme. — Jake had an idea; to visit at the seal islet nearby. Tiina and Veera went on with him. The rubber boat’s motor went off couple of times but otherwise the trip went fine. The seals weren’t at the nearby islet though so, the the team went further on where at least hundred seals went diving when they saw the boat coming. Tiina practise to drive the rubber boat on the way back, and after the delicious dinner also Mikko and Mirva took the boat to watch our cute furry friends.
Lämmin ilta jatkui päivittäisaskareiden ja saunan merkeissä. —- The warm evening continued with the daily tasks and some sauna.

Torstai 19.7.  – Thursday the 19th of July

Aamu alkoi jälleen helteisenä. Aamiaisen jälkeen Jake kiipesi putoamissuojilla varustettuna katolle tarkistamaan tiskipadan piipun tilannetta. Piippu oli hyvin nokinen, joten se päätettiin putsata. — Morning started yet again very warm. After the breakfast Jake put the safety harness on and went to the engine room’s roof to check the dish pot’s chimney. The chimney was very sooty so boys decided to clean it.
Samalla kun Jake, Mikko ja Veera puuhasivat piipun kimpussa Tiina vastaanotti pohjoissatamassa pariskunnan Ruotsista. He tulivat tutustumaan majakkaelämään. Mirva valmisteli jo lounasta askarten ja vierailijoiden viedessä muiden huomion. — While Jake, Mikko and Veera worked with the chimney Tiina took care of a Swedish couple arriving to the Northern harbor. They got a tour around the lighthouse. Mirva was preaparing lunch while the tasks an visitors took others’ attention.Piipun rassauksen jälkeen lounashetki nopeutui kahden purjeveneen ilmestyessä poijuun. Suomen lipulla varustetusta veneestä hyppäsi kolme tyttöä veteen virkistäytymään ja tietenkin mietimme heidän tulevan uimaan, kuten edellispäivänä muutama vierailija oli tehnyt. Kuitenkin toisesta veneestä ui rantaan perhe, lapset puhallettavilla delfiineillä, isä tyylikkäästi kroolaamalla ja äiti renkaalla vaatteet vesitiiviisti muovikassissa. Toisen purjeveneen vieraat ja Rolle-koiran Mikko haki veneellä. —After the chimney work the lunch was suddenly a very fast happening when two sailboats arrived to the buoy. Three girls jumped into the water from  the other boat and of course we thought that the visitors were there just for a swim. However, the girls and rest of the family swam to the shore; girls with inflatable dolphins, father with stylish freestyle swim and mother with a huge tire with their clothes secured in a waterproof bag. The other boat’s crew and Rolle the dog were fetched by Mikko with our boat. Illansuussa lämpötila nousi +27 asteeseen ja kosteus laski 57 prosenttiin. Tiina kävi kuvaamassa pikkuista vastakuoriutunutta tiiraa kallion kolossa pitkällä putkella etteivät tiiravanhemmat hermostuisi. Myös riskilät olivat muuttaneet rannalle vintin katolta. — In the early evening the temperature was already in +27 degrees and humidity sunk down into 57 percent. Tiina went to photoshoot a newly hatched baby tern. She used the professional camera so that the parents of the baby wouldn’t get too anxious. Also the black quillemots had moved from the attic to the shore.
Alkuillasta saareen ajoi vielä yksi ruotsalainen viisihenkinen vierailijaryhmä. Jake ja Tiina olivat heitä vastassa ja he saivat nauttia iltakahvit aurinkoisella terassilla opastuksen jälkeen. — In the early evening there was a boat from Sweden with five persons coming to the Northern harbor. Jake and Tiina took them in and they had very nice evening coffees at the terrace after the guided tour.
Edellisenä iltana Tiina ei malttanut nukkua, joten hän kuvasi naapuriamme Ruotsissa: Understenin majakkaa. Tässä fiilistelykuva sieltä päivän päätteeksi. — Last evening Tiina didn’t want to sleep so she took some photos of our neighbour in Sweden; The Understen Lighthouse. Here’s some musing for you of that.

Perjantai 20.7. – Friday the 20th of July

Aamu alkoi tohinalla kun heti herättyämme saaren lähellä pörräsi kaksi ruotsalaista moottorivenettä. Nämä kuitenkaan eivät halunneet tulla vierailulle vaan jäivät poijulle, jolla olikin ruuhkaa, kun kaksi purjevenettä lähestyi Märketiä. Ruotsalaiset laittoivat veneensä toiseen poijuun ja purjeveneet pääsivät toiseen. Mikko ajoi hakemaan heidät maihin ja Veera kertoi heille Märketin mielenkiintoisen historian, he olivat vaikuttueita Majakkaseuran työstä. — The morning started with a rush; there was two Swedish motorboats driving close by, but they didn’t want to visit us just use the buoy instead. Then there was two sailboats from Finland coming towards the buoy and the motorboats had to move. Mikko drove to pick up the sailboats’ crew and Veera showed them around. They were impressed by our work here.

Myös puhelin soi vilkkaana. Eräs vierailja halusi tulla käymään mahdollisuuksien mukaan iltapäivällä ja Meripelastuslaiva Jenny Wihuri saapuisi Märketille kahden maissa. He olivatkin  aika täsmällisiä.Tuuli oli noussut jo puuskissa 8 m/s pohjoisen suunnasta ja satamiin oli vaikea tulla.— The phone rang many times during the day. One of the visitors wanted to coming the afternoon and the Sea rescue foundation visited with their Jenny Wihuri-boat. They were punctual, the wind blew from the north with 8 m/s and harbors were impossible to reach.

Meripelastusseuran vierailun jälkeen tuuli oli jo noussut 10 m/s ja eestiläinen  purjevene saapui poijuun mukanaan pariskunta Ami-koira. Tiina opasti heidät Märketin saloihin. — After the SAR -visit the wind was blowing with the 10 m/s strenght and he Estonian sailboat arived to the buoy. There was a couple with their dog Ami.Tiina took them around.
Loppuillasta valmistauduttiin lauantain vaihtoon: Mirva inventoi keittiön, Tiina ja Mikko kaupan. — The later evening the crew prepared themselves to the shift change. Mirva counted the kitchen storage and Mikko and Tiina the shop goods.
Loppuilta pyhitettiin chillailulle, olihan sentään viimeinen ilta.— Rest of the evening was dedicated to chilling. It was the last evening after all.
